I've seen some guys on here complaining about the fact that OEM front motor mounts suck, so I decided to make a hockey puck motor mount for a GXP. The tools you will need are a hack saw, 9/16" drill bit, drill, welder and a protractor. Supplies you will need are 5 hockey pucks, 1/2" threaded rod, 2 1/2" locking nuts, 2 1/2" fender washers. I started out by cutting a hockey puck in half horizontally, then cutting one half of that in half horizontally from the top corner to the bottom corner so you end up with a round wedge that is 1/2" tall on one end and hypothetically 0" tall on the other end. Then I drilled a 9/16" hole in the center of the 4 remaining hockey pucks. Then I drilled a 9/16" hole on the wedge shaped hockey puck slightly offset towards the smaller edge of the hockey puck so that the hole is perpendicular to the cut surface of the hockey puck. I then made two notches in the center of the threaded rod so I could bend the rod to a 10° and welded it solid. I then slid the 4 uncut hockey pucks onto one half of the threaded rod and the wedge hockey puck onto the other end of the threaded rod so the uncut side is touching the other hockey pucks. I then held the old OEM motor mount next the hockey puck mount and cut the threaded rod on both ends to the appropriate length and reinstalled the new hockey puck mount. It was a little chore to reinstall the mount, do to it being very ridged but with a little love it will go. This is hopefully the first and last front motor mount I install.

I'm interested to see how this works out. It has been talked about in the past. About time for a permanent solution for GXP owners.

It would be good to see if this holds up. I personally shyed away from this setup because I wasn't confident on the remaining strength of a bent or welded Grade 8 threaded rod.

This might not be a long enough test yet, but 2,500 miles with a few WOT drives and she's not showing any signs of failure yet..

Where are you finding hockey pucks so cheap? Best I have seen locally is $5 each.
