Well, it seems as though the cars trans is on it way out. On my way home today the trans started slipping at higher speeds. Funny thing is I just did a trans fluid change.

The problem comes at 65+ and only when I let the car cruise at those speeds.

Question is; should I just replace the trans or have it rebuilt?

I'd take it to a reputable trans shop and see what they have to say, and what they quote. Not gonna be cheap...

Wow...a 4T80E already failing? That seem premature.

I'd say reman from Jasper transmission...or lifetime rebuld from AAMCO. Warranty is most important.

Get the one from Haro! (that's if he's selling it.)

He has 161k on it John, I'm not really "surprised".

All this time I was worried about the engine going bust. Never thought the trans would go first. I'm taking it to a trans shop on Thursday. Hopefully it won't bite the wallet to bad.

Ouch! First quote $2500.

I'm selling the 4t80e out of the GXP I just bought. It has 20k on the rebuild, and I have the receipt.

I have it listed locally for $700, but would be willing to drop that to $700 SHIPPED for a club member.

It cost me $2400 for a trans rebuild and a new CV joint, $2500 isn't THAT bad, considering...

Actually, not that bad compared to yours Ed. I take it to the shop on Thursday for the pros to look at it. Guy at the shop told me that price was for a reman and install. If they were to rebuild it, the price would be around $1800.

Wow, that's cheap for a rebuild. That price does go up if you have hard parts that need replacing, that aren't part of a normal overhaul, though. My original quote was $2100, but there were a few things they replaced that weren't normal in an overhaul/update and that bumped the price.

I guess I'll get a better idea once the guy looks it over. Either way, it has to get done.

Well, the car is in the shop. First estimate is $1000. They pulled the codes and found several. One for torque converter clutch, two for "pcs" and two for bank 1 and 2 o2 sensors.

We will have to wait and see but I suspect there's more wrong there.

My gut instinct was right. Just got off the phone with the mechanic. Final bill came in at $2569. Needs a complete re-build and a torque convertor. :sadeyz:

Well, at least you got some decent mileage out of her before the tranny started to go. I just had my F250's tranny rebuilt at 70k miles. I asked the guy how much a GXP rebuild, just for future nausious feelings, would be, and he said roughly 1800 bucks including the t-convertor.
