Guys, my dealer found the parts below missing or damaged on my GXP. I can find the air deflector (14), and extension (6) at GMPartsDirect, but they don't show the other deflector (25) at their site. Can you confirm that deflector exists on your GXP's and maybe tell me where to find it? Also, can you tell me how many of the fasteners (15, 26, 7, etc.) I will need to attach them?

Thanks.

I have the air deflector on mine. It scraps every day when I pull out of my driveway. I think I may be missing a few of the fasteners and that is why it is a little low on my car. The stealership should be able to get you some or check a local junk yard. I would imagine that they are used on a lot of GM cars.

I have it on mine, but a while back I looked under the car and noticed it had
all but completely fallen off. It was barely hanging on. The fasteners are junk.
I took it off and refastened it with a different style fastener that I bought at O'Reillys.

When I bought my GXP it was hanging off. I had a 2000 mile trip home, so I ripped it off for the trip. Never replaced it.

I took mine off the day I brought the car home. Still sits in the garage.

Andrew, we did too replace the lower valance shroud. That was the day we *compared* my car to the GXP. Remember?

That's why you came out here in the first place, to put it on the lift and put that back on. That and to "compare"..... :beerchug:

Yes, both 25 and 14 are on the car. I have to remove them every *dang* time I have to actually get into the driving lights for anything other than bulb replacement. The thing is, 25 bolts to 14, so you can take it off all as one piece.

A quick way to verify whether or not yours has it still, is to look down behind the headlight. If you see nothing but unlimited ground, it isn't there.

And as others have mentioned, it uses GM's standard "squeeze-fit" plastic fasteners. The piece itself is fairly heavy (for plastic), and really does need more substantive fasteners. I think every time I R/R mine, I lose/break another, so I make it a point to put them in the places that count for holding it up.

I got all the part numbers from GMPartsDirect (although they gave me two different but very close numbers for the deflector, with slightly different descriptions; still waiting for clarification on that). I'll probably place the order next week. What kills me is the price for the deflector (#14) is less than $25, yet they want almost $60 for the dang Pontiac license plate cover, which I'm sure comes through unpainted, right?

Look on CoPartFinder.com. You may actually have to explain, and may need to verify with pictures, but you can get the parts much cheaper and shipped to you.

GMPD is great, but sometimes, GM prices are the suxor!

Got under the car today - the deflector is definitely not there. It's pretty open under there so I'll get these ordered soon. Don't like the idea of a rock popping up and doing some damage. I also found where the leak in my trunk is coming from. Looks like it's coming in at the tail, near the tire inflator outlet. I'll take the trim out tomorrow to find out definitively. I don't think that's the only spot though since the rug was wet under the left rear speaker when I first discovered water in the trunk. It may still be the sunroof. That's out of adjustment and I tried adjusting it today but couldn't get it to be right at the full stop. I went through a car wash and felt water coming in the sunroof corner. That one the dealer may need to fix.

Try removing one of the plugs at the bottom of the trunk lid, by the latch, and see if that keeps the water out. That means either the spoiler or the center reflector are leaking. If removing the plug works, I would just leave it out and not worry.

Tried removing one of the plugs, but that didn't matter. I gave it the hose test; here are some pics:

Water seems to be coming in under the weather strip and traveling down behind the latch bar:Image

Weather strip is dry, area under the trunk-side edge of it is wet:Image

Water runs around the back of the latch bar plate and down the back wall:Image

The latch itself and surrounding area is dry as a bone, so I don't suspect the lid:Image

I suspect the rubber cement (or hot glue) is compromised:Image

So if I'm right, is it rubber cement or hot glue? It looks like rubber cement.

I ended up trying rubber cement. I'll give it some time to set before trying the water test again.

Check how the third brake light is mounted. Mine leaked badly
through the opening that wasn't sealed properly. I thought
for the longest time it was leaking near the trunk latch because
of how it drips in the trunk, but it wasn't, it was the CHMSL.

Image
See in the picture how the lens is crooked. It was not
sealed in the lid properly and the rubber gasket was pinched.

My CHMSL is fine. As I mentioned, the leak was coming from the weather seal around the trunk opening, near the latch bar. After my last post I tried hot glue, which I didn't really expect to work, but go figure, it did. Haven't had a drop of water in the trunk since.

Finally got around to ordering the front end parts that started this thread. They arrived yesterday. CM was right - that's some pretty heavy plastic. I also got an underhood light assembly as mine is mostly missing. I was pleasantly surprised to find it included the bulb and a complete enclosure with a lens. I was expecting the old style hooded incandescent bulb.

I drilled another hole on the lowest part of my trunk. Never had a problem since. I went this route instead of removing the grommets as I didn't want the holes to be as big. All you need is a small drill bit diameter hole to let any water flowing into the trunk, drip out without water from under the car being splashed up into it.
