Yup, it's rare that I'm the one asking questions, but my patience nowadays is in short supply, so I thought I would ask instead of trying to figure it out for myself  All these questions relate to the 97-99 Bose setup.

1) Stock setup. RPO list on my SSE stated that it should have come with an in-dash CD player. Setup when I got the car however, differed heavily from that. I got the 7 band cassette with what used to be a cd changer (changer is long gone, but the cable remained). Cable looks like it was NOT factory installed, but rather dealer installed. My thinking is that the selling dealer refit the car with that setup per request at sale, but anyways on to the question...do the BOSE factory setups, be it tape or cd, have the eq, or are they supposed to be just the bass/treble? And, are the power levels of the head units different than those that are non-BOSE? Whenever I had the factory 7-band unit in place, the bass was just too much...heavy distortion everywhere, even with new Infinity speakers.

2) Aftermarket setup. I currently have an aftermarket (Kenwood) deck installed, speaker-level outputs going into the BOSE amp. It works fine, but still distorts at higher volumes. The only way I can really crank the volume is if I set the internal crossover to about 170 Hz, but I lose much of the bass that way (even when I adjust the bass setting to full). The question here is what is the better way to hook into the BOSE amp...is it through the speaker-level outputs, or should I go through the line-level outputs? Or should I just do away with the BOSE amp altogether?

All of the factory Bose systems had the stereo with just the treble/bass slider and a cd player.
These are the same radios used in the entire Pontiac line with no difference in power.
I would bypass the Bose amp when I initially installed it I used the amp and it didn't sound great and caused distortion at higher volumes. It sounded much better just using the on board amp on my pioneer head unit IMO it was louder in addition to being distortion free.
