Year and Trim: 2002 Bonneville SSEI
Folks, I'm new...registered today. The car is a 2002 SSEI and I'm going to have a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX installed soon. The original AM-FM-CD-Tape is still installed but the AM and FM stopped working maybe a year ago. I would like to fix this issue before the new one is installed. Tape and CD play just fine. If I turn up the volume I can hear the AM static easily and the same for the FM except not as loud...it's like the sound you hear when it's off station...no voice or music, just static. If you press the SEEK button it will search forever. Makes you think the antenna is "broke". I pulled the radio out to see if the antenna had come loose but that looks good. I checked the connectors on the front and back glass and there's nothing suspicious there. After reading thru the forum I'm suspecting the antenna module and have it loose and dangling out of the headliner. There are 2 easily removed connectors on one end and 2 coax looking cables on the other end. How do these coax looking cables come off??? I couldn't detect nuts that could be loosened...it appears like you just grab them with pliers and pull em out...but I wanted to check here first. By the way, what's inside the module that goes bad?

Thanks,
Doc

coax that I have seen will unscrew - do you see the nut on the end of the coax connection?
if not then you try gently to separate the connection - should not need a lot of force

Thanks 96 SSEi,

I guess I should have used another description instead of coax. The coax that hooks to your TV has the stout cable with the nut on it to tighten it......the cables on the antenna module are stout but not quite as big as coax and there are no nuts to tighten or loosen. I guess they're just antenna cables...1 runs from the front windshield and the other from the back glass and they terminate inside the antenna module. Maybe that'll help.

You have to power up the antenna module using the red wire with 12 Volts from the dock and lock connector behind the HU or it won't work. The rest you can leave alone. One coax goes to the radio, one to the rear glass antenna for AM and FM, and one to the front glass antenna FM only.
