hey guys, i'm new here but a while back while i was lurking around i found a write up on installing a radio shack aux input onto the face of a GXP Monsoon stock HU. does anyone know where the write up is? the author used the cassette input from the radio that had cd/cassette. any help would be appreciated.

For what year? I have a writeup for the pre-'00 cars.

That write up was for a pre '00 Bonneville. But if your car is not equipped with Sirius XM or the 12CD changer, you can use the Aux input wires running to the dock and lock. A9=common, A10 Left audio in, A11 right audio in, where A1 is on the bottom right of the dock and lock. You use the Band button to select the aux input. I imagine you can take the also take the radio apart and connect directly to the pins on the radio part of the dock and lock and run a stereo jack to the face.

sorry guys forgot to mention the year. I have a 2005 Bonneville GXP w/Monsoon CD/Cassette, no CD changer. the write up talked about how to disable the cassette from inside and installing the aux adaptor to the bottom left corner of the face of the HU and using the CD/Cassette button to power the input.

Once again, I believe that was for a pre-2000.

I have Will's old radio that had these installed in it.

A wire came out the side of the radio that had a connector on it for iPhone 4s, not a headphone style jack. It also charges the phone. When I upgraded my phone to a 5S, I bought an adapter so I could still use it with my new phone. This is the adapter.

However, anyone could plug anything into the little jack and it would play through the speakers. When I took the radio apart to swap faceplates, I took a look inside. Basically, the system was wired into the L+R portion of the cassette deck, and must have been getting juice from somewhere thus having the ability to charge the phone. Hence functionality of the cassette deck ceased, but that was a worthy sacrifice.

Will's car was an SSEi with Bose, thus it had a Bose head unit. When I put it into mine which is a 2003 SLE with the non-premium system, it noticeably lost some midrange and became very bright. It didn't bother most, but at higher volumes I personally didn't like it. I had it for a while but couldn't deal with it anymore. So I swapped back in my stocker. Originally I was told that all the head units were the same, but looking inside there are minor differences. This leads me to believe that if the Bose sounded weird in the standard system, it would sound weird with a Monsoon system too. Particularly since there a couple of differences between the Bose and Monsoon systems, most notably the way the factory amp operates. Otherwise I'd happily sell it to you.
