Hey guys, I recently bought a 2000 SSEi Supercharged. I bought a cheapo $3 cassette adapter so I can play my iPod in the car, but my stereo keeps spitting it out saying "Clean Tape". I googled the ejecting problem and did everything in order to get it to work (messing with the insides of the adapter) with no avail.

Do any of you guys use a cassette adapter, if so what brand? I don't feel like replacing the stereo yet.

I went through 3 when I had the 2001 SSEi running, since that one has a cassette player. I don't really remember what brands they are, but I do remember they were all pretty much crap. I ended up switching to a fm transmitter. Its basically the same thing, but a little spendier. Not very expensive, however. I bought some cheapo transmitter from china with dozens of spelling and gramar mistakes on the packaging, but the thing runs like a dream. I dont recall the brand name, but I know it was written in poor English. Some of the "L's" and "I's" were replaced with "1's", believe it or not. No complaints at all, functionality wise. Definitely worth looking into.

*dang*, I bought that $3 one from China as well, but there were no grammar mistakes lol. I literally took it apart and put it back together around 30 times trying to get it to work... lol

I'm currently looking at two different Phillips brand adapters, both at $5. USA sellers. I'm thinking of trying out one of those before getting into an FM transmitter.

I have no complaints about my Monster brand one! Close to cd quality IMO. $10 on Amazon. It's black and red and has a gold plated headphone jack

Just install an 8-track player in your car.

You have to program the radio for a cassette adaptor so it won't spit out. See your owner's manual for instructions.

The monster one mentioned above was going to be my choice when I kept getting the clean tape error, then I got an older one from my grandfathers house and it hasn't spit it out on me in about 6 months, I think it's trial and error to find one that works.

Get the Monster one, it's like $20. I have one and its decent, sometimes the volume is weird but it always works. The cheap ones are junk and a waste of money.

Thanks for the responses guys. I already tried programming it to accept the adapter, but it wouldn't work.

I actually bought a Philips one for $5 on ebay. It will probably come in tomorrow. I bought it before reading these comments. However, if that one doesn't work, I will definitely try the Monster one!

Thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it.

These are better than FM modulators, less noise, better sound, but you have to get a good quality one. Sony, Philips, and maybe some of the iPod-styled brands are OK. I'm using a Sony until I can get the GMOS-09.

I will agree, the fm transmitter an sometimes be staticky. I just like the wireless feature. Can set my iPod anywhere and it's golden, as opposed to it sitting on my ashtray lid

Hijacking thread! I have just pulled a newer delco radio with cassette to fit into my Bonne and was looking at cassette adapters. Monster seems to be the most recommended I see, thoughts?

I haven't met a cassette adapter yet I didn't like.

But then again, my cassette player doesn't work

I used this one when I had my GXP: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-PH2050W-C ... B003FWEQDM

Got it for $5 locally. Sound quality was pretty good, I had no complaints!
