So.....

Tomorrow I plan on purchasing a new Pioneer (aftermarket) radio.
This one has a retractable 6.5" screen.

I wanted to know, from those who have changed their radios before...of any common problems, so I can be ready for tomorrow

You may have to install the screen outside the dash trim for it to work. I am not a big fan or retractable screens as a fixed screen gives a cleaner install. You will also need a Metra adaptor GMOS-09 if you have the Bose System and GMOS-05 if no Bose and want to keep Onstar and chimes (although OnStar no longer works on 2001), Otherwise you need a plain adaptor to fit the dock and lock harness with pigtails to connect to the radio and speakers. and if you have steering wheel controls, there is an interface that will work on Pioneer. You have to cut out the back of the radio enclosure to get it to fit and will also need an antenna adaptor from VW style to Motorola.

Turn out I had to dish out more $$$ than expected to fix up a few things. The radio will have to wait :(

I bought my Pioneer, and with all the adapters I needed, the cost was close to almost $600 (I got the steering wheel module and an XM tuner).

Probably the most I've ever spent on just replacing the head unit.
