I was wondering if this could just be an easy remove and replace or it would require a lot of coding and splicing and whatnot?

They will swap no problem, however you'd need a Tech2 to reprogram the new head unit to work with your car. Unless you someone with that scanner, you'd need to go to the dealer.

The 2000-01 SSEi unit is designed for the Bose Amplified system and your car likely does not have the Bose system. You can tell because there are 8 speakers. So the Head Unit may not be compatible with your car. the 2002+ used a HU compatible with the Monsoon system. Is there something wrong with your head unit?

Id just go aftermarket if I were you. You don't have to go through all the coding, and the harnesses probably will not link up. Like said before me, SSEI Bonnevilles have Bose systems. SE Bonnevilles usually do not. Also, aftermarket (depending on the brand) will make your speakers sound like 3x better.

^thanks dude! What brand do you recommend? i'd prefer something with a red backlight to match the rest of the interior lighting.
