If it happens again, remove the HU and with the car turned off and after the RAP shuts off (you can just remove the key and open the driver's side door to turn it off), check the voltages from all of the hot wires on the GMOS-09. None of them should be hot, but if any are and they are hooked up to the antenna enable or amp, then use a wire that turns off with RAP to power these instead.

I am bumping this because there is tons of relevant info to my situation and it is the most useful Bose->Aftermarket thread I've found.

I bought the GMOS-05 kit. I have:

A 2ch amp for my sub and center
A 2ch amp for the rear speakers I bought
A sony MEX-dv2200 surround HU

My plan is to (according to the success others have had in this thread) wire the front channels to the BOSE amp front speakers, wire the rears to a 2ch amp and use RCA for that, and same with the sub/center channel. The chimes I plan on sending to the rear door speakers.

I will wire the BOSE amp to a switched RAP 12v line, or likely the amp turn-on from my deck.

Any of this sound off?

Yes there are some problems. The GMOS-05 is for non amplified factory cars so it will not turn on your Bose amp. You need a GMOS-09 if you want to run the front 2 channels off the Bose. While you have everything out. Your HU is a single din that was made in 2008 and is obsolete and when you remove the factory radio there will be a gaping hole above you HU. You can get a nice touch screen display double DIN DVD head unit for under 150 that will accept steering wheel controls and rear view camera.

Most of this post is simply opinion, there is nothing wrong with using an older head unit. Most newer units are packed with connection features like USB and Bluetooth but have terrible audio features.

You do need the metra gmos-9. However you can get an installation kit to put a single din in the dash that looks just fine.

OK, here's the skinny. I've installed the HU with the GMOS05 I picked up. I'm going to hook the front channels up (through a crossover to mitigate any level issues I may encounter) through the Bose amp, and wire the amp up to turn on properly when the other amps are on.

I've got two 2-channel amps that I'm running the rears and the sub/center through. I've got this "obsolete" Sony HU because it does 5.1 surround sound and decodes DTS/Dolby properly. It sounds great once wired up properly. I've got the RCA's and the speaker wires hooked to the HU. Tomorrow I will install the amps and test my setup and we'll see how well this works. The chime module works with RAP and powers the HU like it should. I did have to do a bit of excavating behind the dash, but it wasn't too awful. What a janky setup that was.

And I do have the Metra (POS) dash kit for the car. The HU sticks out very slightly, but it's solid.

Success! I ended up not using any of the internal HU amp, and the GMOS05 works fine, it seems to power the Bose amp just fine. I did not hook Onstar up as I can't use it anyway -- I have to warn passengers never to push the button as it results in the HU simply cutting off and silence ensues for about 2 minutes while Onstar finally decides it can't grab a cell signal.

I have a 6-channel crossover that I picked up from a thrift awhile back that this all runs through for fine-tune control.

Front L/R -- ran existing FL/FR speaker wiring to the rear, along with the FL/FR RCA out from the HU. I ran this through the crossover so I could control the level if for some reason the Bose amp overdrove the signal. They sound just fine and I can crank the sound without distortion.

Rear L/R -- installed Pioneer 2-way speakers in the deck, and ran RCA's from the HU to a 200w 2ch Pioneer amp and ran wires through the rear seats to the speakers.

Sub/Center -- ran through the crossover into a *shoot* 400w 2-ch amp I picked up at Wally World a while back. The Center actually does not run through the crossover, since most signal going to it will already be appropriately filtered. I have an automotive Center channel coming in next week, I used the Sony you see for awhile, but it is 6ohm and it will probably behoove me to get one that is meant for the car. I just haven't had the scratch to pick one up.

The amps are under the rear seat at the moment, they just fit. I think I will be moving them to the trunk before long though. I'm not comfortable with how tight of a squeeze it was.

Nice work and I am sure the sound is ten times better than what you got from the factory!

I'm still tuning it some, and I think my amp for the tears has a bad jack but overall it does sound much better, especially with the sub instead of the two 6x9 "sub".
