Okay, so an audio shop installed my alpine 136bt head unit and ran into issues. He used the PAC gm32r and swi rc steering wheel adaptor. He said "due to a special signal sent off from the stock radio, we couldn't hook up the steering wheel remote adaptor." I wasn't thrilled when he said we were using the gm32r but he says it'll work. So my question is, how do we get the remote adaptor to work? And what steps to take for that, because the radio is functional, but with no steering wheel controls, and I want them.

i dont see why they won't work. i used a metra steering wheel adaptor and it works with my kenwood HU on my 2000 SSEI. Now i do need to reprogram the controls on the adapter cause a couple of them don't work but my Mute, Seek up/down and Vol up/down all work... just not my Mode, preset and play buttons are currently inop.. the book tells me how to program they adaptor for the signals but i didnt take the time to do so.

Figured out the head unit issue, taking it back to the store to get the steering wheel adaptor put in. Should be smooth sailing from here
