Hey all, just got a 02 SSEi with the Monsoon system. After market DVD player installed by previous owner has killed my OnStar and chime. Don't really care though. What I do care about is how the stereo sounds. I'm pretty sure one if not both 6x9s are blown. I'm having trouble finding replacement Monsoon speakers so I'm just gonna go after market. I'm gonna go with some 4-ohm ones since they are a good bit cheaper than the 2-ohm kind, and I plan on getting rid of the Monsoon stuff ASAP anyway and running new amp and wiring.

But, for the time being, what do y'all think of these? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_847 ... S6930.html

Also, how do I make sure the rest of my speakers are working like they should? They work, as in I can hear them, but it doesn't sound as clear as my wife's car or my truck that I used to have (07 Avalanche non Bose).

Be patient. It's a busy weekend for everyone. I assure you, some of the more audio experienced gearheads will pop in here soon.

Well, I did some digging in my trunk and the first thing I saw was this:

Looking at the connector I only saw 2 prongs, so that makes me think that these 6x9s are the standard 2 wire hook up, so putting in some aftermarkets won't be hard at all.

Then I started looking at the amp and saw this:

The harnesses weren't even plugged into the amp so I took the amp out. Then I looked closer and noticed that most of the wires have been cut and wire to "new" speaker wire. If I'm not mistaken, does this mean that the person who owned the car before me figured out what wire went to which speaker then rewire them all to run off the new DVD head unit? Also, if I'm correct, that should make my conversion to non-Monsoon audio gear much easier correct?

Wow, I would be pretty disappointed to see that if it were my car. They sure butchered the wiring. I'd hate to see what they did behind your DVD unit.

In reality though, it should make your job easier. They completely bypassed the stock amp'd system. All you need to do is replace the speakers at this point.

It looks like there are speaker wires in there running to crimp connectors, but aren't attached to anything.

Honestly, I would just rewire the car. You can make it look good, and know that it is done correctly.

To me it looks like they dont know how to use those in-line connectors, and used them like a wire nut and have both wires going into one side.

After zooming in on the picture, that is exactly what they did.

Wow, what a hack job.

I stand by my recommendation to take out the old persons work, and do it right.
