I have a question concerning The stock CD player for a '96 to '01 Pontiac with "Theft Lock".

I was going to buy one off of a friend of mine, out of his 2000 Grand Prix. He says I shouldn't need the code for the Theft Lock, because he disconnected the battery before he removed the wiring harnesses, and if I disconnect my battery before installing it in my car, then I won't need the code. He says that his dad, who works at a Chevrolet dealership, told him this.

I say he is full of crap! Or is he?

i swapped out setereos between my 95 and 97 a few times, never needed a code, never disconnected the battery... but that's just my experience

It depends. If theftlock is not enabled on his factory radio, no you will not need a code because it's not enabled. Now for the 2000+ Bonneville, it's a totally different system and not based off of a code, but the VIN # of the vehicle it's being put into, but that doesn't apply to this scenario.
