So far the SSEi (93) is factory. I'm installing a Premier P860MP HU. I want to retain the rear speakers (Bose) and the factory amp. The fronts are Infinity Kappa comps, so they are out of the equation. I think theres seperate wires on the radio harness for the rear 6x9's? So to retain the factory amp and rear 6x9's, how do I wire it up? I was going to hook up the Hu's rear speaker wires to the rear 6x9 leads, then splice that into the other leads for the amp. I'm confused if this might cause the HU to be seeing a weird Ohm that its not designed for. So my question is has anyone attempted this yet? Please dont tell me about how crap the bose system is, its just for some rear fill, I'll be turning it way down in the back, its just for passengers. Thanks for your input.

First off...you don't have Bose. You have Delco. Bose didn't come out until '97, and they are two different things.

Your system uses 2 dual voice coil 6*9 speakers. One coil is full-pass, the other is for bass only. I don't know which ones to tap into for full-pass without digging into my FSMs, but I can tell you that you will lose bass-gain functionality unless you A) Install dual voice coil 6*9s, which are hard to find, or B) You use the bass-only output only, and lose all midrange and most of the higher spectrum as well (if you have heard only the tweets, you will know they are not all that bright).

EDIT - Yes, you will keep the bass-gain function with the new head unit, but it will be distorted to a certain degree. Remember, that gain amp is only meant to handle about 5 watts RMS input.

I got a sweet deal on this HU, it is amazing in every way. It is the premier p860MP by the way.(Edited my original post) Thanks for the info there, I was so confused obviously. It's starting to seem like I would be in a good position to ditch the stock 6x9''s altogether, throw in a set of cheapie ones and forget about the crap amp. I was trying to keep it simple because I don't plan on pushing the 6x9's much at all. I do have a set of tweets I could replace the stock ones with. Is it feasible to install those tweeters in the stock location, and keep the gain down low on the slider, and if so, does anyone know how I would wire the Head unit to the radio harness? Thanks swampthing.

It's not really worth it to keep the slider. When my '96 had the factory speakers, I listened to it with both the gain amp plugged in and unplugged. Honestly, with the factory HU, it sounded better with the HU only powering the rears.

You can use your aftermarket tweeters, you may have to fab up the mounting but it should work.

When you install the HU, just get the regular harness for any 88-on gm car, and wire it up like normal. At the rear speakers, when you install new ones, look on the connector for little letters, A B C D. A and B are the ones you want, A being negative B being positive. Disregard the C and D wires, they wont be used.

If you do decide to do aftermarket speakers in the rear, I doubt you'll need and additional tweeters. I put a cheapie set of lightning audios (rockford off-brand) and they SING. No need for anything more.
