On my '96, are they replaceable independently of the steering wheel? I have the famous paint peeling, and only about 2 out of the 8 switch contacts have a noticable "click" feel to them anymore, the rest are just like pressure-sensitive switches. They all work, however.

I've got an Alpine CDA-9886 on the way, and will be adding the PAC swi-jack a little later on, and i'd just like the controls to be as nice as possible. Thanks!

Yup. Take the airbag off (2 - T27 torx bits on the back of the steering wheel) to free up the wiring. Then use a flat-blade screwdriver to pry the button pods out of the wheel.
