I am getting ready to do my first oil change on the Bonne. I am curious as to what other people are using as far as oil and filter. On my past vehicles I have always ran Castrol GTX & Sytec with Fram filters. I understand that the Fram filters are not recommended. I have also heard some pretty good reviews about Amsoil. But I thought I would see what everyone on here thinks. Please let me know your thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks

Mobil 1 synthetic and the Purolator PL24011 or equivalent.

There is a write up on oil changes in the "Care and Feeding" section of techinfo at the top of the page.

Also, searching for "3800 Maintenance" or "Bonneville Maintenance" would bring you that answer.

Mobil1 for oil, Purolator PureONE, WIX, K&N, Mobil1 and Amsoil EaO are all awesome filters. PureONE is what I use personally. On the Avalanche, the Bonneville and the Sebring.

I used Mobil 1 5W-30 and a K&N Oil Filter on my car, and i promptly over-tightened the filter, so i have to get a new seal for it, oh well. I'm seriously considering Amsoil in my car, although you have to drive over 25k a year to make it last, and idk if i want oil in my car longer than a year, as i only drive 12-15k a year

I use Mobil 1 5W-30 and a K&N Oil Filter on my Bonne.

A couple years ago I used to use 10W-30, which is the stock recommendation, but since I installed the oil pressure kit which increases the flowrate slightly , it was recommended so I switched to 5W-30.

0W-30 is also very good....if you can get it.

I run 5W-50 Penzoil synthetic in my Formula.

I run 10W-30 Mobil 1 in the Jeep.

You have a problem finding 0W-30 up there? That's what the truck and the sebring have. 0W-30 M1.

Mobil1 10W-30 for oil and a K&N, Mobil1 or an ACDelco PF52. I've been running it according to the Oil Life gauge which nomally calls for a change between 5-6K miles.

Some of you have used a longer oil filter on your SSEis. What brand and what are
the part numbers? 2000 Bonneville SSEi.82000 miles. 3.4 pulley

Just get one for a newer S-10 with a 4.3L V6, IIRC.

2000 SSEi *SOLD*
2000 GP GT *SOLD*
Since i bought my 00ssei used with 110,xxx and i didnt know what the previous owner used, so i just use the Mobile Clean 5000 10W 30. If the previous owner before you used regular oil and you use Fully synthetic Mobile 1, you will get leaks for sure. So if you dont know what your previous owner used i suggest you do what i did and go down the middle by using the Mobil Clean 5000 with a good filter.

You will only get leaks if there is heavy sludge deposits on the gaskets, sealing them up, which is rare. The previous owner of my previous car ran cheapo Car Quest oil and I switched to M1 with no issues. If you don't know what is in there and you decide to run synthetic oil, then change at 3k, because if they ran conventional oil, it leaves deposits and the detergents will destroy the deposits, causing the oil to be dirtier and the filter clogged up earlier. After the first change you can go to a normal interval, between 5-8k, depending on your personal preferences.

I ended up using Castrol GTX high mileage 10w30 & a Mobil 1 filter for the 4.3 liter. This is the first vehicle that I haven't used a Fram filter on, but after reading on here about the troubles that people have had with them, it is probably for the better.

Yeah I normally only use Mobil 1 Synthetic or Valvoline SYNPower with a Mobil 1 Filter or K&N Filter both practically the samething.

For those still wondering about the Mobil 1 filters....

M1-101 is the stock filter for our cars
M1-201 is the longer filter that fits our cars, stock for the S-10 Blazers and trucks with the remote mount oil filter.

I use Mobile 1 fully synthetic 10W-30 in my '93 ( 200,000 miles ) and Mobile 1 fully synthetic 5W-30 in the '03 ( 150,000 miles )

Castrol GTX is a really good motor oil. I use it in my Sonoma and my oil analysis always show minimal wear if I keep the oil changes around 3K.

Great choice.
