We have an '02 SE which has been just great since replacing the LIM's with aluminum, replacing door seals, and beefing up the window regulators. Now I am considering finding a low mileage '05 SLE and I wondered if anyone knows whether they improved on any of these items for '05. Especially the LIM's, I wouldn't want to go through that again (primarily the cost as this just isn't something I would do myself).

Wishful thinking I guess, that some of these things were fixed in the later years

The '05s did not have the aluminum framed LIM gasket from the factory, and as far as I know, the window regulators are the same. I don't believe there were any changes in the door seals, either.

The 05 SLE's look a whole heck of a lot cooler.

All window regulators on my 01 are original at over 130k, as are the door seals, as are the LIM gaskets. Other stuff on the "common list" has failed though.

I agree the 05 SLE is pretty sharp without going to the GXP gas mileage. You've been lucky not having trouble with those things to date.

Thanks for your response also, Archon. I guess the trick would be to find one with the aluminum LIM gaskets already installed or plan on having it done (for peace of mind). I remember suspectfully peeking under the hood so many times to see how much coolant was left in the overflow until we got that fixed!

Finding a car where the upper was already done would be a good thing, but probably not real likely with an '05. It looks like an imposing job, but it really isn't that hard to do. If you've done any car work, you'd be able to handle that job. The hardest part is keeping track of the parts. :) Putting them in marked ziplock bags can help. Following the techinfo article by Bill Buttermore will help a lot. With the forum for back up, you're never out there alone working on the car.

You haven't been to my garage. No internet, and unless you stand on one foot, put your right arm out extended and lean left, cell coverage is pretty much non-existant as well. It IS a verizon dead zone.

you can just save the writeup as a document and print it out or bring it out on a laptop if you have one. I usually print it out so i don't dirty my laptop with my dirty hands

I like the look of the '05 SLE as well, but they seem to be really hard to find.
I see more ads for 2005 GXPs than SLEs. Maybe the owners are just
keeping them, compared to the GXPs, but I seldom see them anywhere.

Perhaps this should be another thread in another area of the board, but I've also seen tons of GXP's in the $15-$18k range. It's the poor gas mileage I guess. KBB value for an '05 SLE w/ 30k miles is 13.5k, which seems low considering they were around $31k new. Questions, does anyone know if the '05 CD players play MP3 files and if the SLE has Satellite Radio standard? I read satellite radio came on some Bonnes that year.
