I was trying to change out my spark plugs and wires today when I ran into an issue. I could not get the backside wires off the plugs. The firewall presents its own unique issues but I was able to crawl around and get in there but could not remove the plug wires. Is there a trick to this or is it just plain brute force?

I pretty much just positioned myself good enough to get them out, it was a pain in the ass though I do agree, I didn't do nothing really special.

Yup, just lots of twisting and pulling. They are a PITA, though. If they're original plugs and wires, it's like they're glued on. It took less time to do all 3 fronts, then it did for one of the rears. Be sure to use some dielectric grease on the boots so they're easier to get off next time.

They are likely to be stock. I picked up this car pre-100K. Wires are Delphi, plugs are AC Delco. What are the odds someone went with factory replacement parts? :bstooges:

You may as well plan on replacing your wires, with the plugs. Even if you don't end up with obvious damage, all the pulling and twisting could end up damaging them internally. The other plus is that you don't have to be as careful.

Good point Archon. I figured I would be doing more damage than good by pulling the wires without replacing them so I just stoped. I plan to buy some this weekend to do the job right. Guess I just need to muscle up!! :brant:

I figure, 114K is enough for stock wires and plugs anyway. [-X I haven't had any issues yet but I am sure I will appreciate the improvement.

It is a good time to replace the wires. Twist them as far as you can to help with removal. It is amazing on how far the top can twist, without moving the bottom of the boot. Push the metal shields down as far as you can to get more boot to grip.

Use the biggest pliers you can get your hands on, and give 'em all you got.
