Year and Trim: 2004 Pontiac Bonneville SE
Hello World! I have a bit of an odd one here. I have a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville SE. Had this bit of an issue when I got my oil changed. When cranking it up, my oil pressure needle is way above 40 and stays that way for a bit as the car gets warmer. When it does get warmer, the oil pressure needle starts to go down to below 40 (but never in the red) and fluctuates just below 40 and right at 40. Of course when I press the gas pedal, it goes back up over 40 but at idle, it goes up and down. No check gauges lights come on. I changed my oil pressure sensor about a month after the oil change thinking that was the problem, but I am still having the same issue. Is this normal or a problem? If the latter, how would I fix it? I pray that I am not having low compression.

Thanks!

I see no problem. Sounds like normal oil pressure to me. If its getting down to 20psi at idle you would have a problem.

Oil pressure and compression are 2 very different things.

What was it doing before that you are now thinking you have a problem?

Thanks for the reply! Before the oil change it seemed to stay well above 40 and not fluctuate. But if there is no issue then I can breathe easier haha.

Was is pegged at 120 before? What brand sensor did you put in? As long as you're around 40 you're fine.

Never pegged at 120 for sure. Was always just at 80. Did the oil change and now it's fluctuating. When warm, at idle, it hovers at around 30 to 40 or so. It never gets below 20, thankfully. I put in Advance's Carquest Premium oil pressure sensor, but that was a month after I did the oil change.

Sounds normal! Wouldn't worry about it, especially with warmer weather on the horizon.
