My 1998 Park Avenue has the ABS and Trac off warning lights on. I removed the wheels and checked the sensors with a multimeter, all showing very little resistance. With the battery disconnected I also checked resistance from the plug to the sensors, reading 50 ohms from the fronts and 49 ohms from the rears. I can get hold of an obd2 reader which hopefully will help pinpoint the problem.
I understand the pick up ring on the hubs is known to fail, is there a quick and dirty check I can do to see if that's the problem?, I can't get the scanner until next week.

Roger.

The wheel speed sensors produce a small amount of AC voltage when spun, and that is what the computer sees. You will be able to see the voltage on your meter, but you won't know if its proper data (could be a missing chunk on the ring. The best thing would be to get a scan-tool that can read the ABS codes and see what is wrong according to the computer.

I spun up the wheels, got readings from both fronts and drivers side rear, nothing from passenger side rear.
When I bought the car it came with two spare headlights and a hub. But it's a front, so I've ordered a rear from RockAuto. $82 including duty & shipping to the UK.

The hub turned up yesterday, 5 days to get from from North Carolina to my porch.
Now the new hub is on, and the ABS/Trac off lights stay out.
I dare say the problem was a corroded reluctor ring, a shame I had to buy the complete hub assembly. Having said that, it cost about the same as a hub for a friends Renault car. It's a popular moderately priced car over here, the only difference is I could go to a local auto parts store and buy a hub over the counter for the Renault.

Good to hear it was a simple fix.

All of my local parts stores would definitely have the Bonneville rear wheel hub in stock. :dontknow: Might be a region thing, there are a ton of them around here.

When I was in UK I saw plenty of Renaults, but not a lot of Bonnevilles/Park Avenues, etc. In fact I don't think I saw any. That might explain the lack of hubs for those in the UK.

I guarantee no UK auto parts stores (or motor factors as they are called over here) will have Bonnneville hubs in stock! [-X :)
