Mother nature decided to dump a lot of rain on Northeast Ohio this evening. In the middle of the storm, while getting some food, I noticed the sunroof was letting water in above my head. After drying the water in the bracket up, and a manual adjustment of how the sunroof was sitting, the leak stopped.

Now I have a very sudden but serious urge to seal the *dang* thing off to avoid having this issue again. My uncle wants to use a clear silicone sealant for the job.

Any suggestions???

Even if the external seal isn't working correctly, the drip tray built into the sunroof assembly should catch any leaks unless you are parked at a steep angle. If water is getting over the drip tray that means your drain holes are plugged. If you don't want to diagnose it now and just seal it up, don't use silicone. It will be extremely hard to remove if you ever change your mind. Just slap some tape over it, preferably something that won't break down over time.

I was parked in a spot that was slightly slanted backwards. This allowed the water to "flow" backwards into the liner. It is dry now and nothing more is coming in....I still think the sunroof was just misaligned.

I'll use tape instead. It'll look like crap (somewhat), but it'll do. Thanks, Andrew.

Andrew -- do you have any info about getting the external seal to sit right? Is it just a case of loosening up the torx on the glass panel and adjusting while the sunroof is in the down position?

I've had a couple of sunroof cars and many of them the rear of the glass sat a couple millimeters below the roof panel. My drains have always been clear so the water has drained but it does create some extra annoying wind noise

Yes the torx bolts allow for a little adjustment, but if you can't get it high enough that way you have to do a motor calibration which involves lowering the headliner to get at the motor.
