Now that it is cold my security light stays on after the car is started.
If I shut it off and restart the car it goes off.
I also found out if I double key it the light stays off.
By double key I mean I turn to key to on and then off and then start the car.
It only does it when the weather gets cold.
I have tried both keys and no difference.
Will a new key make a difference or is it something in the ignition switch?
Thank you.

Your results may have vary, but my Security light would randomly appear and disappear when my battery leads were not tight.

Random security problems when it's cold out is a common Bonneville problem. I don't have any answers for you though.

My, and my friend's 2000 SSEis would also do it as it got cold. There was no rhyme nor reason for it, just one of those gremlins that like the colder weather. As it goes away with the next start, just something we got used to seeing.

Thanks for the replies.
It is no big thing but my wife who has the car now was wondering.
If she double keys it there is no problem.
Just trying to keep the wife happy!!!

Seem to be a lot of cold weather security issues. At least it's just the security light coming on. I have the " no crank" issue since it got cold. Only thing I can think of is there's some kinda tolerance issue with the strength of the exciter coil in the key switch for the RFID chip in the key. The cold temperature seems to make it take a few seconds longer for the vehicle to read the key. If I wait a few seconds (5-10) before I turn key to START, it works fine.

The problem is finally fixed!!!
I installed a new Anti-Theft Module (Exciter Module)
Part number is 15785406.
Purchased from Amazon for $79.00
This is the plastic part that goes on the key lock cylinder.
I believe the old one was weak and when cold it would not get the signal.
I also think the solder joints would contract when cold and expand when hot.
Any way problem solved and wife is happy.
I told her that was her Christmas present.
I cannot print what her answer was.
Thanks.

Nice! I figured there was something wrong with cold contraction...I get the same thing. All summer, almost zero issue with it. Every other start it comes on for me. I may just have to replace that exciter. Can't be too difficult to do...

Real simple.
Take off front of dash.
Take the radio out.
Put key in ignition and turn to run.
Reach in hole and depress tab to release the key assembly.
Just pull the old one off and put the new one on.
Takes about 15-20 minutes.

Awesome! I'm thinking of tackling changing the exciter module. Was wondering if I had to pull the dash apart. I've been hesitant to pull it apart because I was afraid I'd break it more and the car wouldn't start at all.
A side note, I've found an odd connection to the "service engine soon" and my no crank issue. If I turn the key to START and the "service engine soon" light is on the car will start. If it isn't, it would take start. I can sit and wait anywhere between 15 seconds and a few minutes and the light will pop on and then the car will start.

Update.
The security light stayed on again the other morning.
Problem NOT fixed.
The temperature was cold again the other morning.
There must be a problem with the module that controls the anti-theft system.
The car does start and the light does stay off when you double key it.
Will look into it at a later time.
I guess I spoke too soon!!!
