Well, not a good day.

Proceeded to leave work, like 90 degrees out, drove 1/4 mile and the car stalled.

I tried to start it and it would barely run....run horrible...die....

I put my foot into the accelerator pedal and got it into a parking lot...then it died again.

Just had it towed 50 miles home.

So when I was waiting for a tow, I got it running, however the RPM's were all over the map...running very rough and STRONG smell. A smell like I never smelled.....

Any clues where I should start?

No codes.

What does your oil look like, and is your coolant level normal?

Hello,

Oil is full and clear. Coolant is at the top of radiator and orange (I think its supposed to be orange).

The smell was very bad exhaust...almost like sulfur, but not quite.

When the tow truck delivered my car, 3 hours later, it started right up...WTH?

I have heard a ton of issues with MAF sensors and never thought it would happen to me...if this in fact is the issue.

I was thinking about buying some MAF cleaner and try again.

ok, stupid me did not unplug MAF. I unplugged whatever the sensor is in the rubber plenum.

I'll unplug MAF when I get home tonight.

If you're double certain your oil and coolant are fine, then that rules out the upper intake failing.

Otherwise, I'd check the MAF. You can check for a clogged cat by tapping on it with something, it'll rattle a bunch if it's bad. Could also be a crank position sensor.

I replaced the upper intake last year.

I'll check MAF tonight. I bough a Crank Sensor at lunch in case MAF checks out good.

yes, unplug the maf - it has a,b,c on top and a 3 wire plug

you unplugged the Iat - intake air temperature

the maf uses iat and map sensors to calibrate flow

Its my MAF. Runs unplugged and kills motor when I plug it in.

What sucks...Andrew is out of town for a while.

Is it worth the risk to junk yard it or buy the $140 Hitachi?

Yes, I actually bought some cleaner yesterday and wasn't successful.

I ordered a new MAF from Amazon...$78.00...it will be here Thursday.

I'm going to junk yard at lunch as I need a quick MAF until my new one arrives (Go to night school).

Can I assume Buick MAF will also work - 2000-2005?

you can drive with maf unplugged for a while: just dont punch her - keep under 2500rpm

all 3800 series 2 have the same maf - just dont use the supercharged with a n/a engine.
