Just bought a 2005 SLE last night.
The temperature gauge is not working.
Is it a bad stepper motor or maybe a sensor?

One more thing.
One of the fog lights is burned out.
On my 2000 SLE you just take out 2 bolts.
On this one it is boxed in.
Do you just drop the black panel that is held up with push pins?

Thanks.

Does the gauge sweep with the rest of the gauges properly?

What exactly is the gauge doing otherwise?

Are you receiving any other symptoms, such as a MIL?

The needle just stays down on the low end (left side) and does not move.
There are some codes.
One was for the EGR Valve and the other is the P0442. (possibly bad gas cap)
My scanner is borrowed out but should have it back tomorrow.
I will let you know the codes tomorrow.
Thanks.

GM instrument clusters are junk. Most likely a bad guage if it isnt sweeping when you start the car.

For the fog light just drop that panel and the fogs are right there. I actually burn out so many fog light bulbs that I left that panel off the car now and can change them in less than a minute

Sounds like a bad stepper motor. The 2004 and newer clusters are known for issues with the steppers.

The fog lights on the GXP/2005 SLE style cars are known to go out frequently. Replace with LED or HID to keep them going longer.

Do you know what the LED bulb number is?
Is it just plug and play?

Thanks.
