It sounds like my driver side front wheel bearing is going.
What is the best brand to go with?
Does anyone manufacture one that is not made in China?
I have tried different brands and the results are not always reliable.

Timken or BCA/National (same as Moog). Not aware of any other brands that are any good.

Based on my experience, forget Timken--they have shifted manufacturing to overseas like so many others.
Not only that but they used different studs in some unusual size, which were impossible to match when 1 broke.
Ridiculous, IMHO.

I bought ACDelco hubs after the overseas made Timken failed prematurely and have been very pleased.

Not sure where BCA/National are now being made.

My brother had a Timken wheel bearing fail within 2 years on his Sierra. All torqued properly and no severe use driving -- Not impressed

I've used AC Delco and they appear to be in the realm of OEM quality as I have yet to replace one twice

Stick to Timkens. I've had a Moog fail twice.

It takes a whole 20 minutes to change these whgeel bearings. I just buy the $30ones from rock auto. I usually get about 2 years out of them. If I am replacing for customers, I will usually go with SKF, Moog, or Precision. I think these days they are all made in China anyway

2 years a pathetic lifespan for a wheel bearing (barring average driving). Buy a better part and have less wear and tear on your tires in the time between diagnosing (another) bad wheel bearing and replacing it (again).

IIRC, the ACDelco hubs I bought were made in Mexico.

I just went with one from Detroit Axle.
I believe it is just a crap shoot.
Some are O.K. and some are not.
Biggest problem is no quality control in China.

They dry out and get noisy long before they ever get loose. That isnt going to hurt your tires one bit. Pretty simple to diagnose. If its getting noisy just order a bearing and change it when you have time. Like I said it takes like 20 minutes to change one so its not like you have to fight with them all weekend. I have seen premium bearings last less time that the cheap ones. Now if you arent capable of tieing your own shoes in the morning and have to take it to a shop and pay someone to change it then by all means get the better one with a better warranty so you only get charged for labor when it fails
