have you cleared the code? it may take many starts for pcm to clear the code so it may be lit but the code really is in memory. if its cylinder 3, focus on that one - check gap, .060 and wires and coil that feeds it. so , on the bank closest to the rad, it is the cylinder to the far right - near air intake box

You may want to do a compression check.

yeah, you should do it properly and do both banks to get a good baseline to compare with #3.
you take this opportunity to inspect and test the coils, wires and plugs for proper condition terminals and connection.

......this will guide you .....http://easyautodiagnostics.com/gm/3.8L/ ... ck-tests-1

Maybe you have a defective spark plug.
You didn't mention the brand you're using but for whatever reason Bosch spark plugs are no good in our 3800 engines.

Can't hurt to do a coolant test.
Swapping wires and plugs just to see if the miss moves would also be a wise move.
I'd be very surprised if the NGK plug was at fault but it's possible that it is cracked or just a random dud.
You can also swap injectors to eliminate an injector issue.
I'd even double check that the wires are fully seated at both ends.

Do a cylinder drop test. If the CEL is flashing, that's a major misfire, such as a spark plug shorting to ground. Something is preventing that cylinder from firing all of the time. You may want to pull the valve cover off and watch the valves as it turns over and see if you have a sticking valve or a collapsed lifter on that cylinder. The leak down test might not show the valve sticking if it's had a chance to close.

Another thing I would do is put a vacuum gauge on it and watch for fluttering...that would indicate a valve issue quickly. If the vacuum reading stays steady while the engine is running, then you can rule out the valve train.

SO did you check gap ........060 inch? you cant always trust the guy at the factory to get it correct.

Unless the gap was way open or way closed, I doubt a spark plug gap would cause a flashing misfire DTC.

Well I rented the bleed down kit but just my luck it doesn't fit my car I did notice that the air bubbles keep coming out when bleeding the coolant system so I'm thinking it is the lim gasket

that reading seems to be good - the others were the same?

I would switch the plug and wire with another cylinder and see if the miss goes to it.
