Hey All....

01 SSEi.....time to replace rotors....got a pulsing on pedal and a bit in the steering wheel when I brake.....

Does anyone know the thickness of the OEM rotors? Looking around at the different parts stores I'm seeing some nominal thickness variation, depending on the rotor and manufacturer. I want to make sure I get the correct thickness so I won't have any pad drag or low pedal.....

Also....any recommendations for rotor manufacturer/parts house/type/model?

Thanks....

Best rotors I've put on my car were Centric blanks from RockAuto.

Personally, I used top-end Raybestos the last time. I'm generally all about the OEM rotors but GM conveniently discontinued them. All I could get was the ACDelco line which work, but they aren't the same quality as original. I really like the pads and rotors on there now.

Thanks for the response....I looked at the Raybestos line too.....ever tried the slotted performance type rotors? Was wondering if they would help prevent the pulsing that has happened a couple of times with this car....

I've never used drilled or slotted rotors so I can't comment on that. I'm sure that even low-end slotted rotors will cause you problems. Sometimes these are sold for the looks and not true performance.

Avoid drilled rotors altogether.

I ran slotted ones from PowerStop way back in the day. They were fine, but you're ultimately paying for looks. The best choice is a quality blank rotor.

Have used Centric parts for many years.
We used them at work and saw they were high quality at a reasonable price.
I usually buy the Centric Premium line.
Don't forget the discount code from Rockauto, posted in the Vendor's forum.

Mike...thanks for the Rockauto code reference....I didn't know about that....

I'm leaning toward the Centric slotted....I've had trouble with my OEM rotors accumulating uneven build up of friction material on the rotors causing the pulsing.....From what I've read the slotted rotors 'scrape' and channel the excess friction material away from the face of the rotor thus preventing buildup...... I don't know that it's true or if it's just sales hype.....but thought it might be worth a try as I'm sick of this pulsing when I hit the brake pedal....

I think you need to be more aggressive in your bed in procedure. The slots clean the surface of the pad more than anything else, as well as help with outgassing, but you won't run into any real benefits from them using them on the street.
