Hi All

I was wondering what entails in the CTS -V brake upgrade? I saw a couple post about it. Just wanted to know are they direct bolt up or need custom brackets?

Thanks, Keith

You'll need brackets and 18s at the very very least.

Are the brackets custom made? Or is there a company that makes them?

The fronts do not require brackets as they bolt directly to the knuckle. However I am not sure if the Bonneville knuckle is the same as the GP one.

You will also need the long zzp stainless brake hoses, caliper bracket bolts for a CTS-V or F body, sleeves for the bolts as they are too small for the hole in the knuckle, banjo bolts, 2007 Mustang GT500 rotors, and obviously the pads.

Also you have to make sure the wheel has enough offset so that the spokes will clear the caliper. In my case they do not clear so spacers were required.

If they bolt to the front of the GP, they should bolt to the 2000+. Rears need a bracket for sure though. Yourgrandma has CTS-Vs all around. Hopefully he sees this and chimes in.

Thanks for the info, but I have some more questions. What year CTS v calipers are used? Is it the 4 or the 6 pistion?

Thanks, Keith

Its the 4 piston ones, 2004-2007. You could actually do the newer 6 piston ones but they are around $600 for the pair or something like that, but I'm not sure on the specifics other than they do bolt to the knuckle.

I think the monoblock calipers (the newer 6-piston), require a specific bracket vs. the 2004 - 2007 (well technically 2009+ as GM continued to use them on the STS-V, G8 GXP, and Camaro's after 2007), 2-piece 4 piston units.

I was going to convert the fronts on the STS to 6 piston monoblocks, then use the 4 piston ones I took off, on the GTO. But a couple of the guys that have done it, had to do some custom work to adapt the monoblocks to the STS. Not that I am above doing that mind you, just that I don't want to invest that time/energy for minimal gains over what I already have on a car that I really don't want to dump a lot into.

Those older calipers (the 2-piece unit, 4 piston) are part #'s

What Lane said on the part numbers. I got mine on partsgeek for $218 shipped for both. Keep in mind that includes core charge since I didn't have cores obviously.

I designed and machined brackets to make it a more or less bolt on install. You lose the parking brake. I could design a bracket to mount a spot caliper like you see on a lot of higher end sports cars, but I never really miss my parking brake so I havent been motivated.

I wouldn't miss it either in an automatic equipped car.
