The 4T65E that is in the 2005 Bonneville I bought August last year is not as nice a shifting Transmission as the 4T60E that's in the ole '92 SSE I have. It shudder/chatter in certain situations that the 4T60E didn't and didn't shift as smooth from certain gears. I put in a bottle of Lucas friction modifier that had some degree of effectiveness. In an effort to try and get the 4T65E to be as close to the 4T60E in the ole '92, I had my son install a TransGo 4T65E shift kit in the 2005 SE. I'm very happy that it's an 80% improvement, but I guess I was expecting too much in hoping for a 100% improvement. Would I do it again? With the information I have currently, yes I would. - BC

That's great to hear that the shift kit helped a bit! I've been wanting to do one on mine, but honestly trans work scares the heck out of me. I've never touched one, and am scared I'd screw it up lol.

A shift kit install is quite easy, if you can do a fluid and filter change, the kit is just the next step.

The kit does a lot of good for the transmissions, but it still might get the occasional dumb moment and do a slightly rough shift, however nowhere near to how bad it was before installing the kit. And the clutches are a lot better off.

Installing the shift kit along with a trans cooler and a quart of Lucas makes these transmissions a lot happier.

The kit has springs that replace the OEM springs in the valve body. There is a great write-up on it un the TECHINFO part of the forum along with photos. I was lucky that the youngest son has done them before. As long as you are able to do some mechanical work on your car now, it shouldn't be too difficult. If you read the directions through several times with the shift kit in front of you before you start, it shouldn't take more than an hour if you've never done anything like that before. - BC
