I am a new owner of an old 2000 SE with 292K. She was cared for but recently she began to misbehave. Driving fine, accelerated and at 1800 rpm as she shifted the tach dropped to 0. Still running and the oil pressure went to 0 as the engine quit. Pulled off the road, turned it off and the restarted and drove on. This happened outside an Autozone, they read the code and said replace the Crank Sensor. That done problem recurred so I replaced the Cam sensor. Same problem. Any suggestions?

I am not sure why you had a cam sensor replaced when the code indicated a crank sensor issue.

Cam sensor issues are very rare, and will not cause the car to stall. The crank position sensor can do this, as this is what the engine uses for fuel/ignition timing as well as speed indications (RPMs on the tach).

What was the exact code that was thrown, and what other symptoms do you have? Does it only happen when hot? Is there any other codes stored in the computer?

The code from Autozone indicated Crank Sensor. My mechanic had the right front wheel off to replace the CV Axle and lower control arm so we replaced the Crank sensor behind the Harmonic balancer. The problem continued. I have a buudy with a 95 who had running issues ( tough start, failure of engine when running) and replacing the cam sensor solved the problem. Since it's a 10 mm nut, and behind the water pump pully, and a $30 part, and I'm a DIY it was a simple change of parts-no luck- not the solution. It occurs cold or hot.The only codes I have are historic regarding missfires on 2&5 before I replaced the coil pack with a pull about a year ago. My scanner is a SnapOn 2500 with cartriges that cover to 1999. I can't be sure I can trust them since I told the scanner the car was a 99. I will pull whatever codes I can tomorrow.

The only code on myMT2500 scanner (99 cartridge) was P0300. I also see my historical misfires on 2&5 has increased since I tried to run her yesterday and she failed.
Any suggestions?

Well 2&5 are on the same coil so that could be going out, but i don't think that could stall it. Icm may be going out again. However i agree that the initial issue sounds like a crank sensor. Wiring to the sensor could be damaged.
