my 2002 check engine light came on on a road trip to ohio.. the whole trip i avg about 27mpg.. i got there and scanned the code to find out it as the MAF.. the same day i noticed under hard throttle the car will buck alittle bit..i figured these problems are related .. however im still not familar with a supercharged car as of yet . the car has not bucked like that since and has been a week now. and runs great. no drop in mileage other than due to cold weather, do you guys think maybe it just needs cleaned or is a MAF a common problem with these cars?

Definitely try cleaning it with some CRC MAF cleaner spray. You'll need a T-20 Torx Security Bit to remove the maf. If cleaning doesn't resolve the code, replace it with one from a junk yard car, or get one from Andrew, Harofreak00. The reman maf's that they sell at the parts stores tend to fail quickly, OEM's are much better, or if you want to buy new, buy a Delco.

Sure thing! It's super easy, just be careful not to touch any of the filament wires inside it and you should be good.

Vacuum leak can also cause that code to throw. You might want to check that before spending money on parts. Fairly easy to spray some carb cleaner on the vac lines with engine running and watch for any change in rpm.

My experience has been that if the car still runs, the maf isn't the problem. When my maf did actually fail, the car would not run. That's just MY experience.

It could be a bad sensor, cleaning doesn't always help them. When mine failed, it didn't throw a check engine light, the car would just die like you turned the key. I unplugged it, and no change. Replaced the MAF and all was good.

Do you know what the exact code was? Like the number? It should be a P0xxx code.
