Hey guys we are into the first thousand mile mark of the 62,000 replacement engine and it purrrrs! I got past the stubborn belt squeal issue (power steering pump pulley falling off the shaft) then I had a P0134 O2 code going and I swapped the brand new looking Delphi for the Really old Cruddy looking Delco from the original engine and the code shut up. I drive 80 miles round trip everyday (95% highway) and I was seeing up to 400 miles per tank with the code going for 3+ weeks. A couple weeks ago I got into it with a CTS-V on the way to work on the interstate pushing 130mph, (I know, I know it was very early in the AM and there were no other cars in sight) the Bonnie did great btw. Since then I have noticed a drop in MPG, only getting a little over 300 miles out of a tank now (no SES light or codes). Could that be the crappy looking O2 sensor or something else? DIC says 22.0 MPG average.

Thanks!

A few things to note.

First, street racing is strictly forbidden on this forum, so speak of it never again.

Second, have you noticed anything else, such as chugging, reduced power, etc?

Oxygen sensors can have a direct impact on fuel mileage. Also, junk could have broke loose, and plugged the o2 sensor. Other things can be to blame as well, including a broken catalytic converter, etc. Be attentive to other symptoms as well.

Yes, I know I pushed the envelope, and I was being descriptive in describing the conditions for the symptom the car is experiencing. No driveability issues or other problems, just reduced MPG. The factory cat is still in place, nothing looks out of the ordinary there...no power loss, missing or stumbles.

I'd be looking for vacuum leaks. Listen for hisses, spray throttle cleaner around vac lines and connections when idling and watch if spraying a certain spots affects the idle quality.
