My dad just called and said the fan blower runs but nothing blows out..the temp controls work as he can feel a change in temp if he holds his hand in front of the vents and turns it up or down (no air movement but can still feel temp change) but he said no matter what he puts it on..vent, floor, defrost etc.. it doesn't blow anything..the blower will go from low to high etc like it should as he can here it but nothing comes out.. WTF? :dontknow:

I don't have the car back yet..it is currently in Iowa on it's journey from MN to FL over the next 2 days.

Any ideas? they are freezing apparently right now..and once they get further south they are gonna be frying so trying to figure out if there is anything he can check.

Thanks.

Problem solved. I called him as I had 2 ideas of what it could be..cabin air filter plugged or condensor froze up not allowing air flow.

I told him to make sure A/C wasn't running and he said it wasn't but I said it might still be.

He stopped and checked and everything was iced over and frozen up (had it on auto climate so A/C was running even though he had heat on I guess)

Then he checked the cabin air filter and it was soaking wet from a rainstorm they hit or something I guess.

So both things I thought it might be it was... so yay me

Everything works great again

That's awesome! I just put in a cabin filter this summer and I guess I'll be checking it more often.

And also, apparently the auto setting has the A/C running all the time to dehumidify the air.

I don't doubt that one bit...that I am sure is exactly why it iced up..that and not enough air flow due to the filter being plugged/wet

I am glad it was a simple fix..I was getting worried not having the car back and it having issues already lol.

Yeah, the GXP does that too, I always just click it on or off depending. The SSEi defaults to AC in auto too. Though I still think something keeps the AC running full in auto mode on that. :dontknow: The auto heat seems to be OK.

I think most cars with auto climate have the AC on pretty much all the time. My parents Lexus is that way, as is my friend's Mazdaspeed 3, and many of the cars I've driven.

There is usually an economy mode that doesnt fire the compressor.

On my GMs the AC runs unless the VENT button is pushed; that's whether it's on AUTO or any self-selected modes. The temperature sensor will turn off the compressor under 50 degs or so (F.).

When DEFROST is chosen, the VENT is cancelled and the compressor runs. I believe it still won't run below about 50 deg. even in VENT.

Nothing in my G8 has anything to do with economy. It does have pollution mode, which uses recirculate and closes the vent to the outside below a certain speed, so that smells don't enter the cabin.
