Still working on my front end vibration and noticed the thread about lumps on the inside of the wheels. I will check that too.

Yesterday I heard a "clunk" from the front driver wheel area twice - each time was after I hit a pothole in the road. So I'm checking it out today and noticed a lot of grease that looks like it was slung from the CV boot on the driver side. Can't find any tears or even a clear source from the CV boot. Would this be a cause of concern?

Not as much as that massive fluid leak coming from the top of your strut....

It rained last night. I believe that's just water from backing it into the garage.

So should I be concerned about that? Could a bad axle contribute to the vibrations?

I'm taking a 300 mile round trip on Saturday.

A bad axle could give vibrations, basically if the grease is all gone and its wearing out the inside cup then it will have some play.. usually on the CV's they pop really loud when turning one way or the other. And yes, a leaking strut would leak onto the strut housing not the wheel well ... there are ways to check the axle... you tube will show you, but you might be able to rotate it by hand and feel for any slop in the joints.. I drove on bad CV's for quite a long time before replacing.. I would replace it when you can
