Hey guys, I have a new rebuilt trans in the car now and am going to go with an external cooler. I am wondering the best way to plug the ports an the radiator connections? Haven't been able to find any threaded plugs(or bolts for that matter) big enough to screw in there, been to hardware, hydraulic supply house, plumbing supply, etc. I believe the cooler was leaking and don't know if coolant could leak from trans ports?

Thanks

if they are being bypassed then just remove the lines and blow them out and leave them. you might try a plastic push plug from the help! section of the parts store to keep junk out of them. nothing will happen if they are left open unless the cooler breaks inside then your coolant may leak..

on my last car this is how they hooked up the external cooler. Feed the trans fluid to the factory cooler then to the external and back to the trans.

I have reason to believe that the cooler is leaking and I do not want to risk the new trans so I am either looking to do the external or I will have to replace the radiator.

You should replace the radiator, for peace of mind if for no other reason.
Radiator is a cheap repair compared to all the other things that will be screwed if/when it fails.

Then, if you like, follow redzmonte's advice and add the external cooler as well.

Peace of mind is always worth every penny!
At least that's my thinking....
