Just noticed the other day I have a pretty good leak start extrenally on the motor of my bonneville and was wondering how can I tell if its mixing with my oil? Because if I can just keep and eye on it and do intake gaskets in the spring that would be much better (no garage) lol

please let me know, thanks!

If its mixing with your oil, your oil will look like chocolate milk.

You should really check to see where it is leaking from. On those, it is very rare for a LIM/UIM gasket to leak externally. You may have something as simple as a hose or fitting broken.

Also, remember that when something is leaking, it is only getting worse!

Appreciated the quick response guys! Now the upper intake (plastic part) does any coolant run threw that or is it just air?

Thanks again guys!

Yes, coolant does run through the UIM as well. That actually is the biggest point of failure. Usually when they fail, the passage is broken down by the heat of the EGR pipe, and causes the manifold to leak coolant directly in to the air intake path (coolant gets sucked in with air).

oil appears to be perfectly fine! now I cant exactly figure out where the leak is comming from .. any suggestions would be really appreciated. Ill look it over more today when I get the chance, Im just glad to find out anti-freeze isnt getting in my oil. one question I do have is the other day when I had the engine cover off I noticed in the slots (on top of the intake) there was puddles of coolant up there. should I plan in replacing the upper intake right off the bat?

Thanks a lot guys!
Tony

If you haven't changed them yet, I would definitely suggest it. If the coolant hasn't started mixing, it will sooner or later.

Seems the Lower intake manifold gaskets are leaking externally, they and the plenum need to be replaced.
