My service engine soon light (2002 bonneville ssei) came on. How do i test this. Autozone in California does not test these. Is there anyway to self test or any very common problem that causes this light to go off. It won't pass smog solely due to this light.

You can buy a OBD2 reader,plug it in under drivers dash while car is off, once plugged in turn key on but do not turn over.

check other parts stores or get a code reader on Amazon..
if your going to buy one, get one that does data streaming so you can use if for future diag. They are about 100$ for decent ones and 15-40$ for "CODE" reading/clearing.

If you have a smartphone/tablet/iPod touch, etc, you can get a bluetooth reader for around $15 that plugs into the OBD-2 port under the dash that you can use with a $5 app. $20 code reader, best deal I've found.
