went to the post office this afternoon and when I came back out and started the car, the blower motor did not work at all. I will check the fuse under the back seat in the morning but wondering if this is this a common problem at 81k or should I look elsewhere?

well it is not the blower motor fuse under the back seat, it's good. The blower motor has been making a slight squeeking noise when the blower is on low, on high it was fine. Maybe the blower motor is bad then

It could be the blower motor. Luckily you have an 03, so changing the blower motor won't be as much of a pain as it seems. Carl knows what I'm talking about, he had to do his not too long ago.

yea, I found a thread on here, doesnt sound too bad, Rock Auto is half the price of everyone else but 2 days away, better get it ordered. Would the fan speed lights move up and down with the control even if the blower's not working? Probably so

Probably. The blower motor is separate from the ECC unit, i.e. When one is broken the other may still work. If you were to remove the Ignition 3 fuse or ECC control panel the fan would default to the highest setting. Goofy I know. Hopefully it stays a little warmer the next few days.

Strange thing happened this morning, before I backed the car out of the garage I decided to hit down on the dash couple of times just to see is something was loose....... the blower motor started to work? I believe it still might be the culprit?

Could be? I've seen strange things before like that. Maybe do a visual inspection and make sure no wiring is loose/cut etc. :dontknow:

There have been reports of the internal wiring of the blower motor going bad.

That's what happened to mine. It's some sort of internal dead-spot, happens to all motors eventually. Turn it on, nothing, whack the dash, works for the rest of the trip. Time for a new one, before it dies completely...

I know it's for a different year, car, and probably motor, but the same thing happened to the blower motor in my LeSabre back int he winter of '07. Every few mornings it would stop, so I'd have a nice cold drive to work.

One morning I got fed up, opened the hood, took the back of the biggest flat head screwdriver I had in the car, and gave the motor a fast, hard hit. It's been working ever since.

Yup. Happened to me. Same exact description. It's rather tight under there. Andrew suggests removing the passenger seat in order to replace the motor. I got away without doing that because I'm tiny. From what I recall, the blower motor is held on with three 6.5 MM screws. So make sure you have that size. There is a mess of wiring under there that you need to wiggle your way around to get the motors in and out. But honestly it isn't that bad.

Psh, I did mine with the seat in, and I'm huge, lol. It's a real PITA tho. Might be different on 00-01's because of the ducting, though.

The plastic kick-panel is held on with 2- 7mm screws and a clip, IIRC the motor bolts are 10mm? Idk, it's all metric, so just have a 1/4" drive ratchet and set of sockets there, lol.

The 02+ are different somehow. Supposedly easier.

It's just the motor and the cage 02+, instead of half of the ducting, etc. Sucks to suck. :P

Mine still works great. :poke:

80k miles. :P

Plus I don't ever really turn the fan past four "bars" or tickmarks or speeds or what have you.

Before I replaced mine, i did pull it out and clean the brushes and the commutator. That made a huge difference with performance. Eventually it developed circuitry problems, so I replaced with a Delco unit.

Since you already ordered, it probably isn't worth the effort to investigate..

yep, just going to switch it out. Pretty weak to only last 81K if you ask me :dontknow: for those of you that remember the story from the meet: maybe a fingernail got stuck up in it :)

I've seen fingernails and hair stuck under the lens of a HUD before. Kinda gross. But if it can get there I suppose it could get anywhere...
