So, last week I used a bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner in my tank at my weekly fill up. Two days later (maybe 35 miles) on my way to work the engine just stops, first no acceleration, then no power steering or breaks. A friend said that I essentially gave my car a stroke my dislodging debris from the tank/lines and sending it to my engine. I changed my fuel filter, and confirmed that my pump is still functional by checking the bleeder on the fuel rail, I've also checked my spark plugs and air filter. Without and OBD code reader, does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem?

It wasn't likely the STP unless it was full of something that it wasn't supposed to be. Since it drove two days, and the condition didn't change after you changed the fuel filter, and you've confirmed the presence of pressure, you've pretty much eliminated anything fuel related. I guess you didn't say, does it run now or not?

Any present codes will tell us the most. But if it simply just died and won't restart, and your coolant is full, it would tend to be the crank sensor or ignition control module.

It does not run currently, I had to have it towed to my house. Im about the take the fuel rail off to check the injectors for clogs. So, do I really need an OBD code reader to see what the problem is?

Check your fuel pressure. Bet your pump went. Smell the vacuum tube off the fuel pressure regulator, does it smell like gas?

Did you try unplugging your Mass Air Flow Sensor and then try to start the car? If the car starts after uplugging the MAF it is likely the MAF is bad. At least this is a easy check and at no cost!
