Noticed a puddle of fluid under my driver's side back tire while leaving the garage this morning. Just did the rear brakes about a week ago, so I panicked for a moment thinking it was brake fluid, but upon further inspection it appears the shock is leaking fluid.

Does this sound right? I didn't think these were fluid filled shocks. In any event the car now bounces up and down with bumps like a trampoline, so something is definitely amiss.

How hard is it to replace the rear shocks? Any suggestions on which shocks to get (Monroe Air something or other IIRC), and where the best place to find them locally? If there's an on-line vendor that's substantially cheaper, I may order there and wait this out until they get here. Thanks in advance for any input on the subject.

It is suggested to replace both the shocks and mounts while you are in there. Replacement is pretty simple. Jack car up, remove 2 – 10mm nuts from bottom of shock, disconnect airline, open trunk, remove side carpets and shock mount covers, remove 2 – 13mm nuts to release shock mount. Insert new shocks/mounts and install in reverse.
Monroe MA822 Max-Air Air Shocks are recommended.
Estimated Cost: $60-75 for a pair of shocks, $50-60 for a pair of mounts, 1-2 hours labor.

They do have fluid in them, so that shock is done for if it's leaking.

Yep, that's the last sign they're bad, lol.

Monroe MA822 (Max Air) is the only true OEM Replacement (Monroe made the OEM shocks). If you did brakes, you can do the shocks no problem.

if you jack it up and look you can see if the shock is leaking or if the brake like or something else is leaking. if its the brake line on the caliper you would see it on the inside of the wheel most likely. its got to be leaking from the shock pretty good to drip, it should be obvious. i just did my rear and replaced with the KYB's, they are firm compared to the worn stock ones.

Found the Monroe's and mounts at O'Reilly, buit when I opened the shock mounts, despite them being in identical "Masterpro" (or whatever their house brand is) boxes, they were two different mounts. They were for the same vehicle but clearly from two different OEM's. The guy looked at me like I was from another planet for taking them back, but I don't think it's a great idea to mix suspension components on a vehicle, correct me if I'm wrong.

So now I have to wait for Amazon to deliver, but at least I saved $40 or $50 on everything. Problem is I have to drive like this for a few days which is borderline dangerous. I've learned to slow for road joints and uneven surfaces!
