Hi everyone, my 1st post on the new BC.

Anyways, lately I've been having a hard start. Normally I turn the key and the car starts right away, now I have to crank it for about 5 seconds before it starts.

So far I have changed the fuel filter and had the injectors cleaned with no luck.

I'm guessing this is fuel related because the night before this started I noticed a sound after I'd turned off the car. I popped the hood and the round part of the fuel rail was making like a gargling sound.

Any help appreciated.

the round part of the fuel rail... are you talking about the little cylinder shaped thing called the fuel pressure regulator? it has a little vacuum line going into it?

No, it appears to be part of the fuel rail itself. About the size of an oreo cookie.

Even the diagram of the fuel rail in the FSM doesn't appear to show it.

Its just a fuel storage area.

Not sure what the fuel pressure is. I've got no codes from a scan tool. I asked at two different parts stores but they didn't have fuel pressure gages.

I just found one on sears.com, so I'm gonna go buy it at our local sears.

Good plan, always a good tool to have. I think I paid $40 for mine at my local parts store.

When you test it, get the pressure at:

Key on, not started:
engine running at idle:
engine running at WOT:
key off, not started: (basically checking to see if it holds it pressure, or does it drop rather quickly)

For the key on part of the test, turn the key on a number of times to purge the tester of air. Then key on about 10 times to get the highest possible pressure. That's the reading you want to use.

Here's what I got.

After turning the key: 50psi.

While running: 45psi.

Pedal down: 47psi.

Forgot to check it after shutting car off.

actually, that is the most important test for this particular problem, LOL

Your other readings look perfect.

When I had my Park Ave, it had a hard starting problem. There is a valve in the pump that was releasing the pressure in the system, so when I tried to start the car, there was no pressure at the rail. Priming the pump several times could let the car start. I'm assuming this is the same problem you are having.

Get that tester on again!
