so i just took my new car out to work today. 1 hour each way. the boost gauge read at idle around -8 and the water temp gauge got up to 200 but not over. the needle was straight up. i know i will have to replace the oil pressure switch because its pegged at 120. but other then that it drove good in the rain today.i do have that sound when i turn the steering wheel.
is these readings normal for my car?

Idle should read all the way at the bottom of the boost gauge, may have a vacuum leak issue.

And the temp gauge sounds normal for heat soak. a 180* T-stat and PCM tune to turn the fans on at a lower temp will bring temperatures down.

I have an '01 SSEi, I have the exact same readings you have. I have replaced my thermostat, but have not had any PCM work done, so the guage points straight up once it's warmed up. My boost guage also is not all the way to the -10 at idle. I think you're good. And you're right, unlike most cars, these Bonnevilles max out on the oil pressure guage when the sending unit is bad, where most other cars go to zero when the thing goes out.

Enjoy your ride!!

well thank you Oldman. yeah i am enjoying it now. i am just trying to get familiar with all the things my car should be. like the normal things. well i looked at it today after warmup and it was like -9 on boost and the water temp reads like i said no more then 200 and goes down to 190. my service engine light came on today. i had it check and the guy at autozone said that it had a stored code on it for the catalytic converter.i dont remeber exactly what the description said after it. i assume that its telling me to replace it. so i got to save up for that. other then that its been good to me for a week now so far. i am assuming that these cars will last a long time. because of all the good posts i see on here about Bonnevilles.
also my cigarette lighter in the front does not work and the backseat lighter does. is there a fuse i can check to see if it is that? where would the fuse be for it?
Thanks

Go back, get it scanned and get the actual code numbers (P0114, or w/e).
