I have a 2000 SLE and a few years back I was having problems with filling the tank with gas. I could hear alot of air noise coming out the filler neck and then it will spit gas out all over me. I kept having problems till I switched gas stations and the problem went away. Until now!!! I filled up yesterday and I heard the same noise and got the hell out of the way and sure enough it spit gas all over. It takes about 10 mins to fill the tank now. It made it 2 years with no problem. I thought it was the gas station before but now i think there was something wrong before and fixed its self. anyone else had this problem as I can;t seen to find any links to my situation. Not sure if it caused by filling the tank plump full all the time or not?? I top off the tank and never had issues with the check engine light coming on except 2 years ago. The light has not come on lately. It seems like there is alot of air getting pumped in with the gas -- not sure. Also I keep the car running when filling the tank -- if that would have something to do with it? I replaced the cap 2 years ago and that didn't help.

Any help would be nice!!!

I finally found a post that said it was the rear evaporator vent. It was half full of gas and needed to be cleaned out.

I am having problems posting the link but do a search for this if you need a fix to this problem "gas shooting from filler neck"

And you should always turn the car off when fueling. Please turn it off for at least safety sake.

:stupid:

Not only are you wasting gas, but you're creating a safety hazard for everyone. It's not like it's going to get unbearably hot or cold in the car in that 2 minutes...
