ok so I am going to attempt to change out a 02 sensor, they said it was driver's side downflow from the CAT. One problem I am haveing..... where the F*%k is this thing? If anyone can help in the next half hour to hour that would be great. I appreciate it alot, any other suggestions would be appreciated as well, and yes I have the special wrench needed. rented it from autozone.

I am going to go out on a limb here and guess you are referring to the O2 Sensor behind that cat? If so, it is located behind the heat shield. You have to drill out the rivets to be able to see the sensor. You should be able to see a little bit of the wires sticking out from the heat shield.

You will need some sheet metal screws to put the heat shield back in place. Don't leave it off. It serves a purpose. FYI: You will be screwing the sheet metal into the floor of the car. I put some waterproof silicone on the screw and the hole before attaching it to prevent any leaks in the future.

EDIT: Searching the forum is a great way to find out how to do things. You won't be forced to sit and wait on a response. Remember, people have busy lives and don't spend their time sitting on the forum.

One adverse effect to finding things via search is you will have a low number of posts.

There are two O2 sensors. 1 on each side of the cat. Before the cat is between the firewall and engine. The after cat is under an aluminum sheild riveted to the body under the car. What codes or conditions are you having to be looking at the downflow?

So I have put this job on hold for now, because the tornado sirens in the area started going off, and the wind is pretty extreme. I dont think under a car is where you want to be when a twister could potentially strike.

But to answer your question. I took it to auto zone and they told me it was the down flow sensor. And the conditions are rather lost mpgs and the cpu throwing a code.

The downstream sensor has no effect on how the motor runs. It only tells you how efficient your CAT is, nothing more. The perils of listening to people at Autozone strike again (second time in 2 days).

Let's have the code before you go any further.

The O2 sensor up by the engine can be seen by looking at the back of the engine from above, not that you can access it from there but you can see it. I did mine from below but others may have more flexible hands than I do.

I think it would be way harder to do the O2 from under. Very accessible from the top.

You got a straight shot at it from above.

Is it recommended to remove anything (other than the strut tower bar?). I'm replacing mine pretty soon it looks like it'll be a tight fit.

For your cars, no. And the 2k's (other than the GXP) don't have an STB anyway.

So is it safe to say that if my panel is still riveted on , that sensor hasn’t ever been changed?

It looks like the wire runs inside the shield? N I can’t get in there to pull the wire out, it’s too tight.

ok, you will have to remove all or part of the heat shield. drill out the rivets and you will have easy access

DONT PULL YOUR WIRE!!.....LOL

You can first try some liquid wrench - there should be ant-seize on the o2 so you can also heat it and try to remove
