Hey guys. It's been ages since I've posted on here but I still lurk around from time to time. I hope everyone is well and it's nice to see a lot of the regulars still here.

Red Rocket is still doing well but run into a little hiccup today. I went to my local oil change place and noticed that the supercharger belt is missing. I did a quick search and see that the car will run without it but it will burn up gas much faster.

I live in an apartment complex and have absolutely no tools or good area to replace the belt myself so I have to take it to the local dealership. Any idea on how much they'll charge me? Is it a special belt or just a normal belt that won't cost too much?

Thanks for any help!

Don't go to the dealer. Go to an auto parts store, buy the belt, and borrow a tool to install it in the parking lot. A dealer will charge you an arm and a leg for the belt, and crazy labor rates to install it.

It's very easy to do.

If the belt is missing, chances are you had a pulley go bad. Look to see if one of the idler pullies is missing.

Don't go to the dealership. Go to the parts store, buy the belt, and ask them if they could slap it on quick... it should only take 1 minute. If they won't do it for you, ask if you can borrow a T-45 torx bit and a ratchet.

Belt should be around $20 depending on what brand you get.

And they'll sell you the pulley you need also.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

I'm an absolute noob when it comes to working on my car so does anyone have a picture tutorial on how to do it?

Also, part of the belt is still really stuck on one of the wraparound pieces. Guess I need to start working at getting that off.

How do I get the remaining piece of belt off of this? It's on there really well and I don't have any clue on how to get it off. The one right in the middle of the picture.

You are missing a pulley, #9 is gone.

Parts store. Same tool as you need to adjust the tensioner. Easy replacement.

I gave him $20, talked to his manager, and e-mail corporate about what he did.

You MIGHT get him in trouble. I'd leave corporate out. They likely have a policy limiting their sales staff from working on cars in the parking lot. His manager will have more of a direct influence on any raises or shift preferences anyway.

And well done on the follow-up. This is the kind of topic that makes my day, from start to finish.

He said that they were just told that they're now allowed to start working on people's cars more. I kept the e-mail to corporate very vague just in case and said that he was a tremendous help and really took his time to ensure that I was satisfied and that everything worked before I left.

Glad to hear they took care of you. My local Advance's employees are very good at helping folks in need, too.
