If you have the parts already to do the LIM gaskets, might as well do them. Think of it as doing a timing belt on a car of not-well-known history. You're then starting off fresh and new.

Also, some places will draw down the radiator just enough to work on the LIM gaskets, then re-fill if the customer is a true cheapskate. So that Dex is an unknown quantity, too.

Are your LIM gaskets black nylon or aluminum? Look between the front valve cover and LIM, you should see the edge. If they're black nylon, replace them and flush out the DEX. If aluminum, flush out the DEX.

Cool, I will check that out.

I should change this forum topic to "alot " of questions.

What are stock quarter mile times on my car?
I live about 15 miles away from Zz performance. Would anyone recommend a tune from them? What kind of gains would I see from a tune with everything stock?

Finally, does anyone know of a place that I can get tail light tint? I just want to darken the middle reflector part of the taillights.

Please ask your 1/4 mile and tune questions by posting a topic in our Performance and Brainstorming section.

Post a topic in Detailing and Appearance about your taillight tint.

Alright, I think I got most of the stuff on the maintenence list done. Just a few questions

1. The supercharged engine does not have a PCV valve, correct?
2. I checked the supercharger oil (smells like butt crack) the level looks good and the oil is nice and clean. Why replace?
3. I did the spark plugs. Ignition wires look fine. Why do you recommend 30-50k?
4. The o2 sensor is kinda expensive to replace if I am not throwing codes with the current one. Why replace it?

1. Yes it does. It's under the little black metal cover on the supercharger marked "PCV". Don't lose the 0-ring.
2. Check the supercharger oil directly after a short drive to see how dirty it is when it's all stirred up.
3. Plug wires are under a ton of stress. You can get affordable sets (Belden Premium from NAPA) with a lifetime warranty.
4. They get tired about 50-60k and you suffer reduced mileage. It takes a VERY bad sensor to throw a code. Rule of thumb is that if you don't know how old it is, or you know it's 50-60k, it's time to start thinking about changing it. This is the FRONT O2 only (in the rear exhaust manifold), not the one behind the Catalytic Converter. Let that one go until it throws a code.

Good info. What kind of highway mpg should I be getting?
I figured the pcv plate was some sort of block off since it is supercharged. Good to know...

It's not a blockoff. It's a cap over the PCV valve that seals the insertion hole. The PCV is a flow-through design inside the housing of the supercharger. Put it back together exactly how you took it apart.

Highway mileage should be about 28mpg with Premium (91 octane minimum) fuel on a long freeway drive for a stock L67. Do NOT use your DIC to calculate it. Fill the tank, long drive, fill the tank, divide miles by gallons to re-fill.

k, is the DIC usually higher or lower than the actual mpg?

also, what is normal idle RPM?

The DIC is inaccurate, and will usually read too high.

The proper idle depends on too many different conditions. Get a scantool, see what the 'Idle Requested RPM' is, and what the actual RPM is, and then see how far off (inaccurate) your Tachometer is.

Warm idle should be around 800 RPM. If it's way higher or way lower, that's an issue.

I have been reading up on this LIM intake and decided to check mine. I bought my SSEi in August and could tell it had been well maintained. I decided to go and check up on my LIM gasket and was surprised to find that i do have an aluminum gasket installed. Here is a picture of an Aluminum gasket to compare with a plastic one.Image

As for the question about O2 sensors being expensive; I just replaced mine on my 2000 SSEi with a Denso sensor that I got for around $30 at Amazon.com. I thought that was pretty reasonable.

I just called to our dealership for the heck of it to see if I could get a service history. Apparently the intake manifold gaskets were replaced at 85,000 miles along with the thermostat, window regulators, tie rod ends and a few other things. Thats a plus, I thought for sure that the dexcool that was in there has been in there for the whole time. What a relief.

The car has 128,000 miles on it now. I should be good with just flushing and replacing the coolant then right?

Need to check and see if they were replaced with factory plastic gaskets or the new aluminum ones. If plastic ones, Id replaced them soon with the aluminum units if you plan on keeping the car.

Surprising a dealer put the aluminum ones on instead of plastic.

My 02 SSEi also has the monsoon sounds system, so I think it's safe to say that my Bonnie got most of the upgrades that an 03 did. No idea why they would have done this if that aluminum gasket did come with it from the factory since this is a Series II supercharged engine though.

Your car should be identical to the 2003. Those two years were virtual twins. No 3800 ever came from the factory with aluminum gaskets.

Now take care of the rest of the problem:
