So I made sure to do a search for this first to see if anyone else was having this problem but I really didnt see anything exactly like mine

My fuel gauge has been acting sporadically lately.

I fill up my tank, and the first half of the tank every thing is fine, but then its as if I am no longer using gas....(I wish)

but then right about 250-275 miles, so I am guessing that there is maybe a quarter tank left it shoots up to full and stays there.

I have tried parking on inclines and declines, I tried sitting on a flat surface idling, banging on the fuel tank see I cant jar something loose. but all to no avail.

I have no real problems with it. I just fill up every 350 miles or so, but the wife wants me to see how difficult/expensive a problem it is to fix.

So please help, if you need more info I will be more than willing to oblige. Again I have no problems with this, but at the end of the day one must remember

happy wife= happy life. :btruestory:

I am the wife driving the car!! And mine does the same thing. I have opened up the cap to see if that helps and it does seem to. It happened again tonite. I knew I had less than a 1/4 tank but it read full. Then suddenly it told me to check fuel gauges!!

Share if you find anything out.

This is a very common problem. Fuel lever sensor is bad. It is located in the trunk under the fuel pump. You can buy one for a Yukon, and save yourself money. They use the same part.

I kinda figured that was what it was, but everyone I have spoke to says I have to replace the pump as well, that they are not two separate units. :dontknow:

Well thanks, I will look into this and see what I find.

Thanks

Ok, so none of the dealers in the area have that part in stock. Anyone know what this part is called so I could check autozone?

It looks like Dorman (P/N 911-007) is making a kit now.
