now wouls something like a pcm shift kit from zzp change these variables, or would you have to go with something like a lock-up bypass? :bstooges:

98+ changed the way the Lock up strategy works... The Torque Converter in lock will normally slip most if not all of the time( Not fully locked )... The TCC strategy was designed to do this, as well they needed a material that could handle this constant slip without cooking the clutch, in this case its a Graphite Woven Clutch...

The 96-97 was slightly different, it would fully lock... But the system was sort of adaptive, it may not fully unlock with various loads... It would ramp down the TCC apply to say 60% as you have added throttle, then it would easily ramp back to 100% in a smooth manner.. The 96-97 used a Carbon Clutch for this purpose.. and these were the first years with the low speed TCC apply.. It does help with around the town fuel economy...

Just remembered the other day, if trans gets too hot, the PCM will activate hot mode. In hot mode, the PCM lowers shift points and commands lock up at all times in 3rd and 4th. It does this in an attempt to keep trans temps down. If a trans temp sensor fails, it could cause a hot mode. Not saying this is the problem, just saying it to make it known.
