Recently rebuilt the engine on my Bonne. A few minor issues here and there but it's been running well for about 600km's now. Friday night i was driving home from a birthday party and managed to have the Cone filter on the end of the Fender well Intake remove itself. (I've yet to replace it.)

Since then, when accelerating the car hesitates for a moment and then goes....but coming to a stock the the engine almost seems to be starved of O2.... the idle drops low and the car has sometimes stalls out. According to the aeroforce, when I look at my maf, the numbers are all over the map as I come to a stop. Is the car maybe just ingesting to much air for the Maf to deal with because of the open intake pipe?

Its probably cause you dont have your intake all they way together. Was it doing it before the filter came off the end?

do you still have the mesh screen in place on the TB? removing that will cause rough idle and erratic MAF readings.

Or you have sucked up some trash and it is interfering with the MAF flow.

yeah, very possible. You can try cleaning the MAF sensor, you may have sucked up some dirt and gotten it stuck on the filaments. You could also unplug the MAF and see what happens

It didn't do that before the filter fell off, it ran well then. Noticed after driving tonight, that "normal" driving, the car operates fine. Anymore than about a half pedal acceleration causes the hesitation, and then the erratic MAF readings as if the car is confused by the excess intake air.

I do in fact still have the screen in, bout the only reason i even dare drive it out of necessity right now

sounds a lot like the MAF is dirty or failing.. Do you have any codes?

Replace your filter immediately. That's trashing your MAF, and the rest of your engine. If replacing the filter on the end of the FWI is impractical, put the filter onto the throttle body. Or go back to stock if you still have those parts available. And change your oil filter, since a lot of particulate matter in the air ended up in the oil and is being filtered out by the filter.

An engine running unfiltered air is going to lead a short and unhappy life.

got a new filter on the car, attempted to clean the MAF, the resistors, or what appears to be resistors seem to be intact, though the car is still hesitating, the MAF reading via the interceptor still appears erratic after any more than say, 30% throttle. A guy at work suggested cleaning the MAF with Rubbing alcohol and a q-tip, it was dirty some, but i suppose the 20 or so miles i put on the car filterless could have killed it. Any other suggestions?

Sounds to me like the MAF may be having issues.. Are there any codes set?

The only code I have is P0300, likely due to the XP cam, it was there before, so I don't believe it has anything to do with the issue. The car doesn't always stall out either. Sometimes it pulls like it did before, other times it bucks/hesitates under acceleration. When that occurs is when the erratic MAF readings happen. Then the idle becomes erratic and it will sometimes stall. At other times, the car seems to get it's bearings and settles back to a normal idle
