first off, how do you know you need a new torque converter? It's not a particularly common failure.

many shops and different mechanics including myself all agree that its going out, through trial and error.

I've replaced basically everything else. lots of torque converter "dust" stuck to the magnet in the pan after only about 7,000 miles or so. shudder, sometimes doesn't lock up etc. etc.

Could be the diff as well.

I suggest a rebuild with stock parts with your current mods.

the plan is to do more mods while i have the engine out. headers, pcm and possibly a slightly smaller pulley. so does anyone know how the stall converter would affect the daily drivability and gas milage? i was thinking of getting a stall converter through zzperformance because form what i understand the torque converter still goes into lockup unlike the converter intense offers.

From my discussions with various 3800 shops a stock torque converter is usually all you need. Unless your making a track only car I think a stock converter is fine.

but the problem is that i dont want a stock torque converter. i blew out mine and so did my friend with a park ave ultra.
so in my opinion they are not strong enough.. so does anyone know a good stall to get for a daily driver and what will it do to my gas milage. thats all i want to know.

A higher stall converter is not stronger. Your converter stalls at about 1800 rpm, which is good for what the engine is and the power output. All a higher stall converter does is stalls at a different RPM to make better use of power. It's not stronger, it's different. You're not going to not have the TC go out because it's a different stall. It happens over time. Your TC went out because it was old and used, not because of the stall speed.

When you say dust in pan after 7k, does that mean your transmission was replaced 7k miles ago, or that the fluid was changed 7k miles ago? When my trans was rebuilt, they installed a re-manufactured TC in it. If they re-used your old one, that could be an issue.

Ok, that's what I thought. Changing stall speed isn't going to gain you anything until you're making way more HP than you currently have or have planned.

Stall speed has nothing to do with the amount of horsepower you have, but the rpms where you make your peak torque.

read here for more info:

check ebay for converters

Any place that deals with transmissions will be able to get one for you.
